Day 01: Hanoi – Hoa Binh – Moc Chau | Gateway to the Northwest
Welcome to Hanoi, Vietnam’s ancient capital and the starting point of your unforgettable 5-day trekking tour in Northern Vietnam. A city steeped in history, Hanoi still preserves the timeless charm of French colonial villas, tree-lined boulevards, and revered monuments that honor national heroes. Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, Hanoi continues to stir the soul with its vibrant street life, sacred temples and shrines, and the enduring cultural richness of the 36 guild streets in the Old Quarter—a living museum of the Trang An people.
Leaving the bustling city behind, we begin our journey to the heroic and majestic Northwest of Vietnam, embarking on a scenic drive toward Moc Chau. This leg of the Hanoi to Pu Luong trek introduces you to the changing landscapes of Hoa Binh province, where limestone mountains and remote valleys hint at the adventure ahead.
After around 4 hours on the winding Northwest roads, a stunning panorama unfolds—lush forests, rolling hills, and tranquil countryside paint a vivid picture of Vietnam nature trekking at its finest. Upon arrival, we enjoy a local lunch before continuing our Moc Chau trekking tour in the afternoon.
From 14:30 to 16:00, we visit Ban Pa Phách, located about 5 km from Moc Chau town. This charming Hmong village is known for its breathtaking white mustard flower fields, which bloom spectacularly in November. These canola fields, sprawling across dozens of acres, offer a paradise-like setting—an unmissable highlight for nature lovers and photographers.
Later in the day, between 16:15 and 17:30, we head to the iconic Moc Chau tea farm, where neatly trimmed green tea hills stretch across the horizon. Here, you’ll witness the sunset casting a golden glow over the highlands—an ideal spot for unforgettable photographs and a moment of peace amidst nature.
This first day sets the tone for an immersive multi-day Vietnam hiking tour—blending culture, scenery, and serenity in equal measure.

7:30 AM – Begin your day with a hearty breakfast at your hotel or resort, fueling up for a full day of adventure on one of the most scenic Moc Chau hiking trails.
8:00 AM – A support vehicle will transfer the group about 6 km from town to the starting point of today’s trek.
8:30 AM – We set out on foot, beginning our Vietnam nature trekking journey by passing through peaceful plum orchards and walking along a blend of dirt and concrete roads for about 2 km until reaching the foot of a steep slope.
8:45 AM – Prepare to challenge yourself as we ascend a 2 km slope at a 45-degree incline. At the top, we’re rewarded with a sweeping panoramic view of Moc Chau town, offering an incredible photo opportunity before continuing down into the mysterious and little-known Hang Tau village.
This Hmong village trek introduces visitors to a community living completely off-grid—no electricity, no roads, and no modern infrastructure. Preserving their ancient customs, the Hmong people here live in harmony with nature, offering a truly authentic experience of ethnic village trekking in Vietnam.
9:30 AM – Upon arrival, we take time to explore Hang Tau, learning about the traditional lifestyle and unique culture of the local Hmong people.

12:20 – 13:30 PM – Enjoy a rustic picnic lunch by a traditional Hmong shack, surrounded by nature. Feast on bread, seasonal fruits, and take in the calmness of the environment.
14:20 PM – Arrive at Mu Nau Plum Valley, famous for its shaggy, decades-old plum trees and tranquil, otherworldly scenery. Take time to capture beautiful photos and soak in the simple yet poetic beauty of the landscape.
The journey back takes us on a new route—equally challenging and beautiful—toward Pien Canh Village. The next 10 km takes us along narrow forest trails, through fields blanketed with wildflowers, patches of white mustard blossoms, and rolling hills dotted with late-blooming forest peach trees and ancient plum groves.
Throughout the trek, we witness scenes of daily life in Northern Vietnam’s hill tribe communities: families farming on steep slopes, wooden houses tucked beneath towering trees, and the peaceful rhythm of rural life. After nearly 5 hours of trekking, resting, and photography, we reach Pien Canh Village, a long-standing favorite among visitors to Moc Chau. But reaching this beautiful village after walking more than 20 km—rather than by road—offers a deeper, more intimate connection with the land. It’s the kind of experience that defines an off-the-beaten-path Vietnam trek, rich with emotion, reward, and lasting memories.

Day 3: Moc Chau – Hang Kia – Kun Peo | Deeper Into H’mong Highlands
This morning, we say goodbye to Moc Chau and continue our 5-day Vietnam trekking tour, heading deeper into the remote mountain regions of Northern Vietnam. After a scenic 2-hour transfer, we arrive at Xa Linh and Pa Co—two traditional H’mong villages tucked away in the highlands.
Here, time seems to stand still. The H’mong people of this region live modestly, adhering to ancestral ways of life. Unlike the neighboring Muong, they still wear vibrant traditional costumes, and many earn a living through weaving and embroidery, creating colorful textiles that reflect their deep-rooted cultural identity. While the locals are reserved and may shy away from cameras, a respectful visit offers a powerful and authentic ethnic village trekking experience in Vietnam.
After a home-cooked lunch in the village and a chance to purchase unique, handmade crafts as souvenirs, we begin our afternoon trek along the Hang Kia trekking route. The trail ascends steeply into a dense, jungle-like forest—challenging but immensely rewarding for nature lovers and hikers alike.
As we push further into remote Vietnam, the path becomes more rugged. The forest thickens, the air cools, and the sense of adventure heightens. After a sharp descent, we find ourselves walking along a peaceful valley floor, where the terrain briefly levels out. This serene stretch of the trail is perfect for taking in the sights, sounds, and scents of the Northern Vietnamese wilderness.
The journey ends with one final push—a steep climb up a rocky mountain path. At the summit, the landscape opens into a quiet plateau, home to the village of Hang Kia, another traditional H’mong settlement. Nestled among plum and peach orchards, Hang Kia greets us with its wooden stilt houses, slow pace of life, and majestic views over the mountains and valleys below.
Arriving in the late afternoon, we settle into this peaceful haven—one of the most off-the-beaten-path Vietnam treks you can experience. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a demanding day, and to reflect on the journey so far through rural Vietnam’s most scenic and culturally rich landscapes.

Day 4: Kun Peo – Pu Luong Nature Reserve | Into the Heart of Northern Vietnam’s Scenic Valleys
Day 4 of our 5-day trekking tour in Northern Vietnam is a rewarding descent through serene mountain paths and vibrant rural landscapes. Today’s journey begins from the peaceful H’mong village of Kun Peo, nestled high in the hills. Unlike the previous day's steep climbs, today’s route is mostly downhill—allowing you to truly appreciate the majestic views and natural diversity that define this part of Vietnam.
We start with a short trail that leads to a wide, sandy path commonly used by locals on motorcycles. This ridge trail offers sweeping views back toward the valley we traversed yesterday, offering a fresh perspective on the landscapes we've covered.
Crossing the ridge, we descend into a fertile south-facing valley bursting with life—bamboo forests, terraced fields of maize and yucca, and rich red earth stretching beneath your feet. This is the kind of scenic trekking Vietnam is famous for: tranquil, breathtaking, and ever-changing with each turn.
As we continue our Kun Peo to Pu Luong hike, the trail winds gently along the side of the mountain. After a couple of hours of peaceful trekking, we descend into another ethnic village—this time belonging to the Thai minority group, known for their elegant wooden houses on stilts and deep cultural ties to the land.
After exploring Kun Peo village, we reunite with our support vehicle and set off by road for Pu Luong Nature Reserve—one of Vietnam’s most enchanting protected areas and a true highlight of this itinerary.
As we approach Pu Luong, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic: lush valleys carved by ancient rivers, dense forests alive with birdsong, and distant peaks wrapped in mist. This protected area is home to several Northern Vietnam hill tribe communities, and is famous for its rice terraces, tranquil streams, and immersive eco-tourism trekking opportunities.
Arriving in the late afternoon, we settle into our peaceful accommodation and prepare for tomorrow’s final day of adventure in the green heart of Thanh Hoa province.

Along the way, we pass through Uoi Village (Bản Ươi) and Lan Village (Bản Lặn), walking alongside a peaceful stream framed by majestic limestone mountains. This scenic trail offers a quiet window into rural life, where you’ll see locals tending to their farms, weaving brocades, and living in harmony with nature—a perfect highlight of any cultural hiking tour in Vietnam.
After a gentle walk, we arrive at the enchanting Hieu Waterfall (Thác Hiêu), one of the most iconic sites of the Hieu Waterfall trekking tour. Here, we’ll pause for lunch and relaxation. Take time to swim or unwind in the natural pools formed by the cascading waters—refreshing and restorative, especially after days of hiking.

Finally, we board a bamboo raft and float down a serene river, allowing us to fully take in the sublime scenery and breathtaking landscapes of Pu Luong from the water.
Our trek concludes at Tan Lap Bridge, where our driver will be waiting.
